The course will teach design thinking as well as skills in multidisciplinary methods and will culminate in student projects that model such processes. The exhibition opens Nov.
Denny and C. Writers at all stages of their careers will highlight a range of genres and share their reflections on the creative-writing process in classrooms, community readings and book signings.
Illustrations are of artifacts and historical photographs of these Fuegians. The earliest object in the exhibition is a piece of a 10th century manuscript of Latin inscriptions that was cut out and then used to wrap the binding of another book.
In later centuries, the embellished images in manuscripts began to be treated like miniature paintings to be cut out and framed. The project will include educational opportunities for students, pop-up installations that engage historical and contemporary issues in these respective communities, and scholar-practitioner working groups to address social problems, such as violence, wealth disparity, incarceration and human rights.
The project leaders will develop a year-long course for freshmen that delves into case studies of innovations that brought artists and humanists into collaboration with scientists and engineers.
They embody a spirit of memory whether it is that of the owner, the artist, or the subject. The illustrations were considered the most attractive and valuable parts of medieval manuscripts. So Ege cut pages from a wide range of books and created portfolios featuring one page from each, accompanied by a description, so students could see pieces of a manuscript in person.
The project is designed to demonstrate how virtual reality technology can be used to enhance the immersed experience of participants in live theater performances.
Hundreds of Chicago youth from underserved communities will attend these performances at the Goodman Theatre and at the CAVE2 on the UIC campus, allowing for immersive participation in the plotlines through avatars, hand-held devices and 3D platforms.

The Museum's holdings of Pre-Columbian objects from Mesoamerica and Peru are particularly strong in ceramics, numbering some items, but also include over remarkable textiles and featherwork pieces.
One of the earliest major American look at Pre-Columbian textiles in this study of the origins of weavings in terms of aesthetics, with an argument for the importance of textile weaving as the source for all types of geometric design.
